Feta & honey puff pastry bites
4 ingredient cheesy, flakey pastry parcels. The perfect party food.
There’s not much better than soft baked feta, and that’s exactly what’s inside these flaky pastries.
I love sweet and salty together, especially feta and honey. It’s such a good pairing.
These only require a few ingredients and make brilliant party food or vegetarian canapés for a dinner party, especially during the festive season. Hope you enjoy them.
You’ll need (makes 12 bites):
1 pack pre-rolled puff pastry (about 320g)
200g feta cheese
Honey
Sesame seeds
1 egg, beaten, or milk, to brush the pastry with (optional but gives them a nice shine)
Preheat your oven to 190C. Unroll the pastry and cut it in half lengthways. Then cut each half into thirds lengthways, then into thirds widthways, so you have 12 pieces from each half.
Stand the feta up tall on a chopping board, and holding it carefully, cut it in half so it’s half the thickness it was in the packet. Lay each half flat and cut each half in half down the length of it, and then into thirds, so you have six equal pieces from each half.
Lay 12 pieces of pastry out onto a baking parchment (you can use the paper that came with the pastry).
Onto each piece, place a piece of feta. You need a border around the feta, to be able to stick the pastry together. Trim the feta if needed.
Spoon a little honey over each piece of feta. It’s fine if it drips over the edge and off the pastry.
Place a piece of pastry on top of each piece, and press down the edges to meet the bottom edges.
Brush with beaten egg or milk, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for about 20 minutes, until golden brown.
Dig in! They are lovely served warm, but can also be cooked and served cold, but will be best eaten within a couple of hours of cooking.
These were delicious 😋 I'm making some more for a Christmas gathering this evening. 🎄✨️
